A2SEA , based in Fredericia, is a Danish company that specializes in technical services in the field of offshore wind energy technology and operates several installation vessels as a shipping company . A2SEA is 51% owned by the Danish utility company Dong Energy (operator of several offshore wind farms) and 49% by Siemens Wind Power (manufacturer of wind turbines and other offshore wind farm equipment).
In mid-2017, an agreement was reached for the takeover of A2SEA by the Belgian offshore service provider GeoSea .
history
The company was founded in 2000. For the construction of offshore wind farms, the cargo ships Ocean Ady and Ocean Hanne were signed in 2001 and 2002 and converted into installation ships according to A2SEA specifications . In doing so, u. a. Retrofitted lifting legs and board crane. In 2002 A2SEA carried out its first project with the Horns Rev wind farm with 80 wind turbines.
In the following years, A2SEA grew continuously through participation in numerous offshore wind farm projects and developed into a market leader in the industry. In 2005, A2SEA bought the two ships mentioned above, previously only chartered, and renamed them Sea Energy and Sea Power . In 2007 and 2008 two more installation ships were added, the Sea Jack and the Sea Worker .
In 2009, A2SEA was bought by Dong Energy. In 2010 DONG sold a minority stake of initially 32.8% in Siemens Wind Power . In the same year this stake was increased to 49%.
In 2010, A2SEA commissioned a fifth installation ship, Sea Installer , which was built according to its own technical specifications and completed at the end of 2012. At the beginning of 2013, the installation vessel was used to build wind turbines in the “Gunfleet Sands III” wind farm, then it was used to build the “ Anholt ” wind farm in the Danish Baltic Sea and “Duddon Sands” in the Irish Sea. In 2012 A2SEA acquired the subsidiary CT Offshore, a company specializing in submarine cable technology .
Products and services
A2SEA offers work boats , personnel and tools as well as the associated project management, planning and logistics for the construction and maintenance of offshore wind turbines. In addition to the wind turbines, A2SEA also installs other electrical and mechanical system components for offshore wind farms such as transformer platforms , wind measurement masts and submarine cable connections . Since it was founded in 2000, A2SEA has built more than 700 offshore wind turbines; this corresponds to around 60% of all such systems worldwide (as of 2012). A2SEA is the market leader in this business.
The numerous offshore wind farms in which A2SEA has worked include the wind farms Baltic 1 in Germany, Prinses Amalia and Egmond an Zee in the Netherlands, Lillgrund in Sweden, Arklow Bank in Ireland, Horns Rev , Nysted / Rødsand 1 and 2 , Frederikshavn , Sprogø and Anholt in Denmark, Scroby Sands , Burbo Bank , Kentish Flats , Robin Rigg , Thanet , Gunfleet Sands , Walney 1 , Greater Gabbard , Ormonde , London Array , Sheringham Shoal , Teesside , West of Duddon Sands and Gwynt y Môr in the United Kingdom.
The wind farms listed above include many in which DONG and / or Siemens are involved as operators and / or manufacturers. A2SEA also works for other clients.

A2SEA also has a number of smaller tender boats for the transport of crew and equipment. The subsidiary CT Offshore also owns several workboats, in particular cable layers .
