Technical data and equipment

The Bold Tern, the first ship in the series, is 131.73 m long and 39 m wide. The side height is 9 m, the draft 5.8 m. The ship is measured at 15,328  GT . While the Brave Tern is identical, the Sea Installer and Sea Challenger differ slightly in terms of dimensions and features.

The superstructures are located in the forward area of the ships. A helicopter deck with a diameter of 22 m, which can carry up to 12.8 t, is installed above the deckhouse. Only the Sea Challenger, the fourth ship in the series, does not have a helicopter deck.

The superstructures of Fred's two ships. Olsen Windcarrier can accommodate 80 people in 56 cabins, while the two A2SEA ships can accommodate 60 people. An open working deck is located behind the superstructure. Around 3,200 m² are available here. The deck can be loaded with 5 to 10 t / m². The maximum payload is around 6,500 t.

The ships are equipped with four cylindrical legs with a diameter of 4.5 m and a length of 81.5 m (the actual leg lengths differ slightly for the ships built: they are 78.4 m for the Fred.Olsen Windcarrier ships and 78.4 m for the ships from A2SEA around 83 m long). The ships can be raised hydraulically by this at 0.4 to 0.6 m / s. They can be used in water up to 45 m deep. The lifting legs have a lifting force of 5,300 t.

The ships are equipped with a main crane and several other lifting tools. The main crane is located on the port side at the stern of the ships and is arranged around the jack leg so that it can be rotated 360 °. The crane has a height of 102 m above deck. By Fred's ships. Olsen Windcarriers, the main crane has a lifting capacity of 800 t at a radius of 24 m. Two cranes with a lifting capacity of 20 t and a radius of 27 m are available as additional lifting tools. A2SEA's ships are equipped with a main crane with 900 t lifting capacity and five additional cranes with 20 t each.

In addition, a diesel generator from Caterpillar with 1400 kW output is installed for emergency and port operations. A2SEA's ships are equipped with six Caterpillar 9M25 generators, each with an output of 3,020 kW. A generator from Cummins of the type KTA38-D (M) for emergency and port operations is installed here.

For the propulsion, the ships are equipped with three Voith-Schneider propellers with an output of 3,800 kW at the stern, each of which is driven by an electric motor. In addition, the ships are equipped with three transverse thruster systems in the bow. The ships reach a speed of 12  kn and meet the requirements for dynamic positioning according to DP 2.
