Ormonde is an offshore wind farm operated by Vattenfall in the Irish Sea with an installed capacity of 150 MW .
General
It is located 10 km west of Barrow-in-Furness in a water depth of 17 to 30 meters and covers an area of 8.7 km². The Walney , Barrow and West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farms are also nearby . On site, the average wind speed at a height of 80 meters is 9 m / s. The forecast annual electricity yield is 500 GWh , which, according to the company, can supply 100,000 households. The capacity factor is thus approx. 38%.
30 wind turbines of the type REpower 5M with a nominal output of 5 MW each, a hub height of 90 meters and a rotor diameter of 126 meters are installed. Jacket foundations were used as the foundation for the turbines, which were manufactured in the REpower plant in Bremerhaven and loaded onto the Sea Jack jack-up platform in Belfast . The electricity generated is fed into the public power grid in the substation in Heysham , to which the wind farm's transformer platform, which is also based on a jacket foundation , is connected by a 42 km long submarine cable . The neighboring Barrow offshore wind farm and phase 1 of the Walney offshore wind farm, which is also located nearby, also feed into the same substation .
history
The wind farm was originally planned by Eclipse Energy as a hybrid power plant consisting of the wind farm and a 90 MW gas power plant . After Vattenfall bought Eclipse Energy, the project was planned as a purely offshore wind farm. The building permit was granted at the beginning of 2007 and construction began in 2008, although initially only onshore work was carried out. After the contract for the delivery of the wind turbines was awarded to REpower in July 2009, offshore work began in May 2010. After the foundations had been installed, the wind turbines were erected between March and August 2011. The submarine cable was put into operation at the end of April 2011 and electricity production began in summer 2011. The wind farm was finally completed and commissioned in February 2012.
In December Vattenfall sold 49% of the shares in the Swedish pension fund AMF.
