The Nysted Wind Farm , also known as the Rødsand is an offshore - wind farm off the south coast of the Danish island of Lolland . The wind farm, which has consisted of 162 wind turbines since 2010 , was the largest in the world when it went into operation in 2003 in terms of annual electricity generation.
location
The wind farm called Rødsand I is located in the Baltic Sea in front of the Rødsand sandbank , about ten kilometers south of Nysted and ten kilometers west of Gedser on the northern edge of the sea route between the Kadetrinne and Fehmarnbelt . The wind farm occupies an area of 24 km².
Around three kilometers west of Rødsand I is Rødsand 2 , another offshore wind farm with 90 wind turbines, covering an area of 34 km² around ten kilometers southeast of Rødbyhavn . The water depth here is six to twelve meters.
history
In 1998 the Danish parliament asked the energy industry to build five wind turbines to demonstrate the use of wind power. In 2001, the contracts between the operating company, the suppliers and the Ministry of Energy were signed and the construction of the foundations began the following year. The turbines were installed between May 10 and July 28, 2003. The official handover to the operator took place on December 1st, 2003, one month earlier than planned. The construction of the facility cost around 1.6 billion Danish kroner (approx. 213 million euros).
Technology Rødsand I
There are a total of 72 wind turbines in an 8 × 9 grid. Each individual tower is 69 meters high and has three rotor blades, each 41 meters in length. The maximum height reached by the rotor is 110 meters. The wind turbines supplied by Siemens each have an output of up to 2.3 MW.
The total weight of a tower is 2050 tons, divided into 1800 tons of foundation, 115 tons of tower and 135 tons of technology (rotor blades, generator and nacelle). The system can produce energy at wind speeds of 4 m / s to 25 m / s, so it starts with a weak breeze and only has to be switched off in a heavy storm .
The wind farm is operated by the Danish company Dong Energy . The wind turbines are monitored from Copenhagen .
The cable connections between the wind turbines and the transformer platform for 33 kV as well as the connection to the land for 132 kV belong to SEAS-NVE Transmission . The submarine cable to land has a diameter of 20 cm and a weight of 72 kg per meter.
Rødsand 2
technology
In an arrangement of 18 units in five rows curved towards the coast, there are a total of 90 wind turbines. They have a tower height of 68.5 meters and a rotor diameter of 93 meters. The total height is 115 meters. The plants built by Siemens Windenergie on behalf of E.ON , each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, were put into operation on October 12, 2010.
The individual wind turbines are connected to the transformer platform by 75 km of submarine cables, from here a 40 km long cable leads to the onshore station, where it is fed into the Danish electrical network.
business
E.ON sold 80% of its shares in the Rødsand 2 wind farm to the Danish energy supplier SEAS-NVE in November 2013.
As part of the swap between RWE and E.ON, RWE took over the remaining shares from E.ON at the end of 2019 and has since been responsible for operations.
