Lamin Kuyateh
Lamin Kuyateh (born January 15, 1964 in Gambia) is a musician and Jeli from Gambia . He plays the West African instrument Kora , a 21-string bridge harp. He learned this instrument at the age of five as the eldest son of his father Dembel Kuyateh . His younger brother Buba Kuyateh is also musically active.
In 1993 he began his international career with the Gambian band Ifang Bondi , after which he joined the Tiramakhan Ensemble . He has since visited Europe several times and settled in the Netherlands in 1996, where he received citizenship in 1999. The "Jalkliya Ensemble" was founded in 1998, with which he also toured Europe several times. He also appeared as the Lamin Kuyateh Quartet and as a solo artist.
