Lamin Saine

Lamin K. Saine (* 1947 ) is a Gambian politician and former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) from 2012 to 2013 .

Life

Saine has the Gambian National Army with the rank of captain ( Captain served). Among other things, he was part of the ECOWAS Monitoring Group , which was deployed in Liberia during the civil war . He lost his eyesight after a car accident in 1993. With the support of the Gambian government and the encouragement of his friends, he overcame the aftermath of his accident by learning Braille and later acquiring computer skills. According to another source, he lost his sight in a mine or bomb explosion during a peacekeeping mission, which he reports in his book. In 2005 he published the novel Ripped Apart , which was launched by the Minister of Information Amadou Scattred Janneh .

He says he was trained by the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS, known as MI6) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). On November 16, 2012, Saine was appointed Acting Director General of the NIA. He served as the NIA general manager from 2012 to December 9, 2013. In 2013 he was involved in the arrest and detention of journalist Adboulie John . He was also the main witness for the Gambian government in the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) hearing on the 2011 assassination of Deyda Hydara . In 2014, former NIA analyst Ousman Bojang Saine accused Jammeh of withholding information about the March 2006 coup attempt to have to fire his then superior Daba Marenah . He has been appointed Deputy Director General of the NIA.

Saine became one of five President-appointed Members of Parliament following the 2012 general election. In his speech to the National Assembly in December 2016, during the Gambian constitutional crisis 2016-2017 and the military intervention of ECOWAS in The Gambia , Saine argued that internal disputes ended by foreign intervention tend to end in bloodshed. He said: "If you look at what happened in Liberia with foreign intervention, in Syria and even in Gambia during the failed coup attempt in 1981 , when foreign forces arrived, many people lost their lives and property".
