Daba Marenah

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daba Marenah or Daba Marena († March or April 2006 ) was governor (former name: Divisional Commissioner ) of the Gambian Upper River Region (URR).

Life

Before Marenah was appointed commissioner for the Upper River Division (prior to November 2000), Marenah was the director general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). Later, in 2003 ( before February 2004 ), he returned as director general of the NIA. He remained in this position until 2006, when he was imprisoned in connection with the failed coup on March 21, 2006. On April 4, it was reported that Marenah and four other prisoners managed to escape while transporting prisoners to Janjanbureh when the car drove into a ditch and rolled over. Rumors then circulated that Marenah had been tortured and died under mysterious circumstances. Amnesty International calls this incident: Alleged extrajudicial executions . That Marenah died appeared to be confirmed in January 2007.
