Lamont is an oval surface structure on the front of the moon in the plain of Mare Tranquillitatis , southeast of the Arago crater .

It is believed that the system of concentric elevations is the remains of an impact basin. A Mascon was detected below the structure .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the astronomer Johann von Lamont .
