The Lancashire League was a football division in north-west England that existed around the turn of the 19th century into the 20th century . There is now a competition for reserve teams from the field of non-league football of the same name.

history

The Lancashire League was founded in 1889 after the example of the Football League established a year earlier had shown that a league operation can be carried out successfully. In the championship mainly teams from the Lancashire district competed , but clubs from neighboring regions were also among the participants in the competition. Over time, some teams left the competition to join the Football League. After 14 years, the championship went on in the Lancashire Combination , the name was initially retained as the second highest division in this league.

In 1939 a new competition was founded under the name Lancashire League, which was intended for reserve teams of the Football League representatives from Lancashire. After a season the operation was stopped due to the war . In 1949 there was a new edition as a youth competition. Reserve teams from non-league football also increasingly appeared. After the introduction of a championship for youth teams by the Football League, these withdrew from the competition, so that since 1998 only reserve teams from the field of non-league football have been competing against each other.
