The Lancetes Lake is a small lake on the north coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located near the head end of Maiviken Bay on the Thatcher Peninsula .
The lake is characterized by a rich benthic flora of algae and moss . This offers ideal living conditions for the swimming beetle Lancetes clausii , after whom this lake is named and which can be found here in large numbers. It was named in 1991 by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee .
