History and content

In 1982 Lutz Maurer , Bernd Seidel and Manfred Gabrielli founded the ORF documentary series Land der Berge . Originally, the focus was on mountains and alpinists , later also on regions and the local population. The presenter of the first broadcast on May 29, 1982 in the afternoon program of FS2 was castle actor Romuald Pekny , who stood in for the originally intended Klaus Maria Brandauer . Brandauer later led through several programs as a guest presenter. A special was dedicated to his 70th birthday in 2013. The episode “Zauberberg” Semmering, broadcast in 2001, with Teddy Podgorski as the presenter, was the last one designed by the program director Lutz Maurer. The series ran for years on the second ORF channel , later in the now discontinued TW1 and today in the special interest channel ORF III (as of 2013). The theme music is Chariots of Fire by Vangelis . The 250th program was broadcast on November 7, 2015.
