Life

Manfred Gabrielli was born on August 11, 1944 in Seefeld in Tirol and was active as a soccer player even in his childhood and youth. As a goalkeeper, he made it into the regional league with SK Rum and was active in various amateur football clubs until the 1980s. In later years he also appeared in the media and celebrity teams as a football player. After attending grammar school in Innsbruck and Bad Aussee , where he went to the same class as the future actor Klaus Maria Brandauer , the mid-twenties took part in a large-scale sports reporter test for the ORF in 1970 and was selected from 1,800 candidates. The journalist came to ORF in 1970 and took over from Bertl Neumann three years later as head of sports at the Tyrolean regional studio . For decades he was considered the voice of FC Wacker Innsbruck (and its successor, FC Tirol Innsbruck ) on television broadcasts from the old Tivoli Stadium , where he often spoke with "unshakable enthusiasm" and in "characteristic staccato style " ( FC Tirol. Macht. Pressure ) commented. The amateur footballer, who was also active as a fencer and rally driver , reported. during the heyday of Innsbruck and was also active as a speaker at the Olympic Games .

Furthermore, he was considered to be "one of the most profound experts on the international alpine scene" and as such was one of the founders of the Land der Berge format , a documentary series broadcast by Austrian Broadcasting Corporation for the first time in May 1982. The multiple award-winning format, which was co-founded by Lutz Maurer and Bernd Seidel , is still in the ORF's program today (as of April 2019). Thanks to their decades-long friendship, Gabrielli brought Klaus Maria Brandauer, who was already internationally successful at the time, as a presenter for the show; Brandauer subsequently performed several programs as a guest presenter. Throughout his life he also published several books on the subject of alpinism and his home state; including Land der Berge (1989) or Tirol - starkes Land (1995). In the course of his life Gabrielli was honored several times and was among other things bearer of the Tyrolean Order of Tourism and the Tyrolean Sports Honorary Sign. During his career at ORF, the versatile, multilingual and cosmopolitan radio and television designer also contributed numerous other productions for the television series Erlebnis Österreich , Österreich-Bild or Universum .

After recovering from an operation, Gabrielli died unexpectedly on April 22, 2005 at the age of 60. He left behind his wife Petra, whom he had only married last fall, and his adult daughter Nicole from his first marriage.
