The state ASten meeting North Rhine-Westphalia (short: LAT NRW ) is the voluntary gathering of all student representatives in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is the only legitimate nationwide representation of the interests of student bodies and student representatives. All positions, opinions or decisions are taken by the members by consensus. The meetings take place rotating monthly at the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The aim of the LAT NRW is to strengthen the exchange of experience and cooperation between the student bodies and to appear uniformly towards the public on certain topics. In addition, she actively influences all university political processes and represents the students in relevant social and political issues vis-à-vis the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia , in particular for the Ministry of Science and other state-wide actors.

The LAT NRW is a member of the Action Alliance against Tuition Fees and is one of the supporting organizations of the student accreditation pool . Like all other state student representatives , it works together with the fzs , the umbrella association of student bodies in Germany and the Federal Association of Foreign Students. There is also contact with the Alliance for Political and Freedom of Expression.

The LAT coordination

The student bodies in North Rhine-Westphalia elect a LAT coordination ( LAT-Ko for short ) every year , who carry out the resolutions and the day-to-day business. It should be noted that if there are several people in the coordination, not all of them must be of the same gender.

The LAT – Ko is primarily intended to act as an information point for the LAT. It does not represent the LAT, but acts as an internal and external communicative interface. The following tasks are processed, among others:

  • Digital moderation and information (e.g. invitations and minutes, maintenance of digital communication media)
  • Coordination, representation and communication (internal and external, e.g. to ministries, parties and unions in North Rhine-Westphalia)
  • External networking and member support
  • Archiving, inventory maintenance and research

Since 2005, the LAT has been coordinating with two people:

Presentation meeting of foreign students (RaSt) NRW

The meeting of foreign students (RaSt) NRW represents 62,080 (25.2%) students. The RaSt brings together the foreigners' departments, the international departments and the internationalism departments of the ASten of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The RaSt is part of the state ASten meeting of North Rhine-Westphalia and is the state association of the Federal Association of Foreign Students . It stands up for the rights of foreign students. The main topics are the social and legal situation of foreign students in North Rhine-Westphalia and especially the tuition and supervision fees . The RaSt also deals intensively with the abolition of preparatory colleges in North Rhine-Westphalia and the question of studying and toleration .

The meetings take place rotating at the universities in NRW and are convened by the LAT NRW coordination. These meetings are used for internal exchange, dealing with various content-related topics, decision-making and planning joint actions. A study and tolerance working group was founded together with the BAS.
