State Institute for Apiculture
The State Institute for Apiculture of the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart-Hohenheim is an institution of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
history
The State Institute for Apiculture was founded in 1963 , building on the apiculture department at the Zoological Institute of the University of Hohenheim. It serves as a link between applied bee research and beekeeping practice. From 1976 to 2011 Gerhard Liebig worked as a scientific employee at the State Institute for Apiculture and, together with colleagues, developed the Hohenheim single hive , which is also known as the Liebig compact hive . In 2019 the new building of the State Institute for Apiculture took place.
tasks
Well-equipped honey laboratories and analysis laboratories as well as a test beekeeping facility with around 300 colonies are available to the state institute for its tasks. The tasks of the state institute include
- applied research in the various areas of apiculture
- the quality inspection of bee products
- participation in training to become a professional beekeeper
- the technical supervision of diploma and doctoral theses in apiology
- the implementation of courses and training for beekeepers and other public relations work
Long-term projects deal with central areas of beekeeping such as varroosis , forest costume, breeding and bee protection.
