State Vocational School Savoy

The Savoy State Vocational School for the Hospitality Industry is located in Merano in South Tyrol . It is one of the most popular schools in South Tyrol and offers apprenticeships for up to 700 students. These are mainly trained for gastronomy, but general education and languages ​​are also important pillars of the school .

history

The building was erected in 1895 and completed in 1896. It had 30 beds and was named Hotel Savoy . Due to its great success, the hotel was subsequently expanded and lastly had 130 beds. In the 20th century, the owners changed frequently. In 1967 it came into the possession of the Province of South Tyrol, which eventually converted the hotel into a hotel management school.

Lessons and direction

There are currently around 60 teachers working in the vocational school. The director is Beatrix Kerschbaumer. The following subjects are taught: German, Italian, English, French, restaurant management, kitchen management, receptionism and word processing, geography, history, economics and social studies, mathematics / computer science, physical education and religion. In the Biennien (two-year preparation for the Abitur), one morning a week is reserved for practice. The students who successfully complete the biennium can then attend the three-year State Hotel Management School Kaiserhof .

Practice rooms

The former dining rooms and kitchens have been renovated and refurbished. There are three dining rooms (the great hall, the silver hall and the parlor) as well as several kitchens (main kitchen, teaching kitchen 1 & 2, patisserie and guardian). There is also a bar for students to learn how to make cocktails and other drinks. Most of the meals for the students are prepared and served by themselves, under the guidance of specialist teachers and experienced cooks.

Socrates program

The school takes part in the Socrates program , which works against xenophobia and for the "promotion of intercultural awareness".
