Goals and Activities

On July 9, 1979, representatives of the Berlin women's associations and other women's associations founded the Landesfrauenrat Berlin eV as their umbrella organization .

It promotes cooperation between women's organizations in Berlin, enables exchange, networking and information on political debates about the role of women in society, the relationship between men and women in the work process and in the family. According to his own statements, he represents women's political interests vis-à-vis the House of Representatives, the state government, the Senate administration and other organizations.

The aim of the association is to point out gender-specific inequalities in the state of Berlin and to work towards eliminating them. For example, the State Women's Council achieved anchoring a seat for the State Women's Council in the SFB Broadcasting Council , which is now the rbb Broadcasting Council.

The State Women's Council is also represented on the Women's Political Advisory Council at the Senate Administration for Health, Care, Equality and in the Berlin Advisory Council for Family Issues at the Senate Administration for Education, Youth and Science. In addition, the Berlin Women's Council sends two delegates to the Conference of Women's Councils, the decision-making body of the women's councils in Germany, which meets once a year.

Organization and structure

The board of the Landesfrauenrat Berlin, which is elected every three years by the general assembly, consists of five members who belong to different member organizations. The general assembly decides on the admission of new member associations with two thirds of those present. The general assembly has a quorum if more than a third of the organizations are represented. The State Women's Council has an office in Berlin.
