State Institute for Health and Work of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia

The State Institute for Health and Work of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (LIGA.NRW) was established as an institution in accordance with Section 14 of the State Organization Act on January 1, 2008. The facility was under the supervision of the Ministry of Labor. The technical supervision lay with both the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Health.

The previous state institute for the public health service of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the previous state institute for occupational safety of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia were merged in the facility .

Since January 1, 2012, the tasks of the former State Institute for Health and Work of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia have been carried out in the newly established institutions State Institute for Work Design of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia - LIA.NRW and State Center Health North Rhine-Westphalia - LZG.NRW .

The State Institute for Health and Work advised and supported the state government, the authorities and institutions as well as the municipalities of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in questions of health , health policy and safety and health protection in the world of work. The tasks of the LIGA.NRW ranged from health policy to prevention and health promotion, the promotion of innovations in the health system , company health management and the healthy design of working conditions to drug safety , infection protection and hygiene .

As a political adviser, the LIGA.NRW supported the state's health reporting and provided data, reports and analyzes on the health situation in North Rhine-Westphalia. As the state's official drug testing center and device testing center, the LIGA.NRW has strengthened patient and consumer protection in North Rhine-Westphalia. The institute was the central office for the monitoring of infectious diseases as well as the body responsible for the medical occupational safety of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. As the “Central Office for Healthy Childhood”, the LIGA.NRW supported the “Healthy Childhood” campaign with which the state wants to encourage children to take part in early diagnosis examinations.

Since 2008, the state institute has been coordinating the “Regional Node North Rhine-Westphalia” in the nationwide cooperation network for promoting health among socially disadvantaged people . Also since 2008 the institute has been recognized as the WHO Collaborating Center for Regional Health Policy and Public Health.
