history

Franconia House in Tübingen: the first location of the Tübingen regional studio

On July 24, 1950, the Tübingen regional studio went on air for the first time in what was then the capital of Württemberg-Hohenzollern and was part of the Südwestfunk (French zone). First, the SWF opened a radio studio in the house of the student association Corps Franconia Tübingen on the Österberg. It had an important function as a "bridgehead" to state politics. As early as 1948, the then state government of the state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern had requested the establishment of a state studio in Tübingen. After the merger of SWF and SDR to form SWR, the regional responsibilities changed.
