The landscape protection area Am Forstamt Sandhorst is a landscape protection area in the district of Aurich in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00008.

Description of the area

The protected landscape area, designated in 1969, covers an area of ​​0.09 square kilometers and is located north of the Landratsholz road. To the west the Habbackerweg and east the Dornumer Straße border the area that belongs entirely to the city of Aurich . The Sandhorst Cemetery and Sandhorst Castle are located in the middle of the nature reserve .

The landscape protection area is a small wooded area close to the settlement that is partly damp and has a mixed forest character with wall hedges to the west and an old cemetery. According to the findings of the Aurich district, the area is a "retreat and regeneration area for adapted species and communities and a structural element that shapes the landscape in the transition from settlement to open landscape."

Protection purpose

The general protection purpose is the “preservation of typical geest landscape features as well as securing its structural diversity and promoting networking elements” and “highlighting the local history aspect in the area of ​​village settlements ( Auricher Loogen ) and traditional forms of land use.”
