The landscape protection area, designated in 1957, covers an area of 0.07 square kilometers and is located south of the center of Horsten , a district of the municipality of Friedeburg in East Friesland .

Protection purpose

The general protection purpose is the "preservation and development of a forest area, partly surrounded by settlement, as a habitat for small mammals and bird species in the park and forest landscapes and as a recreation area for the population". The district wants to achieve this goal by drawing up a maintenance and development plan. He also wants to promote natural rejuvenation . In the long term, the ecosystem is to be changed through succession to a forest with indigenous trees that are appropriate to the location. There are also plans to develop the edges of the forest and to set up a circular trail that can be used all year round in order to promote the forest's recreational function. The landscape area is also to be extended to include the sand pit in the east, which is a particularly protected biotope .
