Life

MacInnes grew up as the youngest of six children on the Scottish island of South Uist . At the age of 15 she continued her education at the Nicolson Institute in Lewis . She then studied print design at the School of Textiles and Design in the Scottish Borders , where she graduated in 1991.

MacInnes started working for the BBC in Glasgow as Gaelic television shows began to grow in popularity and was offered role because of her mother tongue. She appeared in the soap Machair (1994) and was a presenter. She eventually came to professional singing through the film industry. In the Gaelic-language docu-drama An Ceasnachadh: Interrogation of a Highland Lass (2000) she played one of four students who wanted to bring the Stone of Scone from Westminster Abbey back to Scotland in 1950 . She also made vocal contributions in the feature film Seachd (2007) and for the soundtrack of Ridley Scott's adventure film Robin Hood (2010).

In 2006, MacInness' debut album Og-Mhadainn Shamhraidh (Summer Dawn) was released by Greentrax Recordings, produced by Iain MacDonald. It contains traditional and modern songs in Scottish Gaelic, including their version of Òran na Cloiche . For this she was named "Gaelic Singer of the Year" at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2006. The album Cille Bhrìde (Kilbride) followed in 2012 .
