The landscape protection area open spaces and clearing islands in the Rothaargebirge with 47.94  hectares is located in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was in 2004 by the council of Hochsauerlandkreises with the landscape plan Winterberg as a conservation area designated (LSG). The LSG was designated as one of seven type B landscape protection areas on the outskirts, open land and cultural landscape protection in the city of Winterberg. In the urban area there is also a type A LSG, general landscape protection and 13 type C, meadow valleys, protection of significant extensive grasslands . The LSG consists of three sub-areas.

description

The LSG consists of open land areas with grassland that are surrounded by forest. The open land area Ebershagen northeast of Altastenberg consists of a relatively extensively used, slightly sloping grassland at an altitude of 720 to 750 m. In its southern part and adjacent to the north and east there are spring areas that fall under the statutory biotope protection according to § 30 BNatSchG . More striking, however, are the old beech trees, which limit the area, especially on the northern edge, and emphasize the traditional function as an old hedge area. A part of the area lies east of Mollseifen on the Bürenberg. The third area "Mittelei / Kerrloh" is located southeast of Winterberg and forms the continuation and conclusion of the ecologically and aesthetically valuable mountain meadows south of the city center.

Protection purpose

The designation was carried out to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the landscape in the vicinity of the localities and the old agricultural priority areas by keeping it open. Also because of its special importance for recreation.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the city, the LSG prohibits building structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue exceptional permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Winterberg, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures .

As in all landscape planning areas of type B and type C in the urban area, there is a requirement to keep the LSG free from forest cover through agricultural use or through maintenance measures.
