The landscape protection area Hengsteysee / Ruhr, south bank with an area of ​​162.45  ha is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The landscape protection area (LSG) is located in the Bathey district of Hagen . The LSG was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. It goes to the city limits to Dortmund and Herdecke . In the south it goes to the Hengstey marshalling yard or to the A1. The LSG comprises the parts of the Hengsteysee and Ruhr with their south bank in the Hagen city area.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, it was designated “to maintain and restore the efficiency of the natural balance, particularly because of its importance as a breeding and feeding biotope and as a winter resting place for numerous water bird species on the Red List; because of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the landscape of the Ruhr and the Hengsteysee and because of its special importance as a recreational area close to the city for the districts of Kabel and Boele ”.

Special prohibitions in the LSG

In addition to the usual prohibitions in landscape protection areas in Hagen, special prohibitions have been issued for the LSG. In the LSG it is forbidden to swim in the Hengsteysee and Ruhr, and to step on and drive on the ice surface in winter. To protect water birds, it is forbidden to enter the pond rose fields with boats. This ban also applies to non-motorized boats.
