History of the Church and the Parish

Location of Clein Lijder and S. Cruz. (Kleinheiligkreuz) on the map of the Fulda bishopric from 1574

Lüder small part after the establishment of Fulda Abbey (744) to the 812 to 822 under the Abbots Ratgar or Eigil founded proprietary church Grossenlueder, in turn, to Archidiakonat of Provost of St. Johann in Mainz Church province Mainz counted. It was first mentioned in a document from 953 in connection with a donation to Grossenlüder. An already mentioned medieval chapel belonged to the Fulda monastery.

"Clein Lijder" (Kleinlüder) and "S. Cruz “( Kleinheiligkreuz ) were already shown and mentioned on a map of the Hochstift Fulda from 1574. As early as 1656, under the Fulda abbot Joachim Graf von Gravenegg, a chapel in honor of John the Baptist was named, which was added to the existing fortified tower . The interior of the defense tower was used as a sanctuary . At that time the chapel was a branch church of Großenlüder. After the secularization of the Fulda monastery in 1803, Kleinlüder remained a daughter church of Großenlüder in 1812.

architecture

In the neo-Romanesque style, the church is built on a medieval defensive tower made of rubble and is brightly plastered. All structural elements, the buttresses , the walls of the portal and the windows, as well as the eaves , base chords and steps leading to the main and secondary portals are made of reddish or gray sandstone. The floor plan is a cross with lower extensions in the cross angles. In the triangular gable facade two arched windows, one in a niche with open canopy posted Heiligenfigur of Hl. Johannes the Baptist flank. The gable itself is crowned with a Greek cross . The roof, which is covered with clay tiles, is stretched in an east-west direction over three cross-domed vaults with narrow ridges and a small keystone . The four corner extensions are also covered with cross vaults. The chancel arch was in its original state with ornamental and figurative paintings of Art Nouveau decoration. The narrow gallery from the construction period was expanded in the 1960s. A spiral staircase made of sandstone leads to the gallery .

In 1815 a cemetery cross was erected at the Kleinlüder cemetery behind the old chapel . The pedestal carried the donor's inscription carved into the stone on a plate decorated with leafy tendrils and four roses:

I only find sweet rest here, O Lord, at your feet So I want to end my life with you when you want 1815 .

Below was the name of the founder: "Anna Maria Mathes" . In 1963, in connection with the construction of the rectory , the cross was moved to the Boniface Beech at the pilgrimage church of Kleinheiligkreuz .

Umpfarrung

In 1840 Kleinlüder was separated from the parish of Großenlüder and assigned to the parish of St. Simon and Judas in Blankenau . In 1841 the chapel was renovated. The ridge of the chapel ran parallel to the street. The defense tower had a pointed pyramid roof . On May 17, 1894, a church building fund was established; the financial basis was a legacy of the pastor Kalb, who died on August 1st, 1892. On January 6, 1905, the parish council and council of Kleinlüder decided to build a new church.
