The nature reserve Laurenzius- und Waldbach with an area of ​​6.1  hectares is located south of the hamlet Endorferhütte in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 when the Sundern landscape plan was redesigned . The LSG was designated as a type C landscape protection area , meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland. The LSG is surrounded by the Sundern nature reserve . Before that, the area was part of the Sundern nature reserve from 1993. The LSG borders directly on the Gehren residential area and borders the city limits in the south.

The LSG includes grassland areas in the valley floor of the waters near the Gehren residential area. The grassland is used extensively. Fallow grassland areas are covered with lush high herbaceous vegetation. The meandering brooks flow through the valley floor, which is often not step-proof.

The landscape plan explains the value of the LSG: "As the only open spaces in a large contiguous forest area, the defined areas have a high value as stepping stone biotopes for open land species in addition to their structuring and landscape-shaping function."

Protection purpose

The landscape plan elaborates on the protection purpose: “Supplementing the NSG stipulations of the floodplains to form a grassland biotope network system that creates opportunities for animals and plants to migrate and spread and thus serves to maintain the efficiency of the natural balance. At the same time, due to their predominant location in the wooded planning area, the open floodplains have a structuring and invigorating effect on the landscape and thus contribute to safeguarding its diversity, individuality and beauty. Furthermore, (extensive) grassland areas should be preserved, which are of particular importance for the protection of biotopes and species. "

Legal regulations
