The landscape protection area Neuwesteel is a landscape protection area in the district of Aurich in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00020 and is located entirely in the area of the city of Norden in East Friesland . It has been part of the Westermarsch landscape protection area since December 18, 2012, with the number LSG AUR 00031.
Description of the area
The nature reserve covers an area of 2.48 square kilometers in the center of which lies the artificially created water surface of the Norder Tief storage basin with a wooded island. The riparian areas there are larger, contiguous part reed reeds zones. The rest of the area includes directly adjacent agricultural areas, which are criss-crossed by a network of different drainage ditches. The area is considered a valuable breeding, resting and feeding biotope for water birds and lemikoles as well as a networking element to the Leybucht habitat.
