The nature reserve Oevinghauser Wald and Ruhrtal with an area of ​​262  hectares is located east of Wickede (Ruhr) in the Soest district . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the district council in 2006 with the landscape plan V Ense-Wickede . The majority of the area is in the municipality of Ense , while only part of the north-west belongs to Wickede. The LSG goes to the edge of the settlement of Wickede. Only a smaller sub-area lies south of the Ruhr . The LSG borders the Ruhraue nature reserve (Soest district) . The LSG is cut up by the federal highway 45 .

The LSG includes the Oevinghauser Forest with the adjoining Ruhr Valley with arable land and grassland between Wickede, Echthausen and Waltringen . In the north, the area is determined by the course of the municipal boundary of Ense. The southern border is based on the local railway line.

Protection purpose

As with other LSGs, the designation was carried out in the landscape plan area to maintain or restore the efficiency of the natural balance; because of the diversity, uniqueness or beauty of the landscape or because of its special importance for recreation.

For the LSG, the following was specifically listed as a protective purpose:

  • Particularly important as a network corridor to the adjacent "Ruhraue" nature reserve, which is designated as an area particularly worthy of protection within the European Community within the framework of the Habitats Directive.
  • Natural deciduous mixed forest areas and spacious terrace and valley areas equipped landscape area.
  • High value for a landscape-related local recreation.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the landscape planning area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue exceptional permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other landscape protection areas, there is a prohibition in the LSG to plant Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nurseries . It is Z. B. also forbidden to remove or damage trees, bushes, hedges, field or riparian trees.

Two requirements were set for the LSG :

  • The forest areas should be managed as naturally as possible. Old and dead wood parts for the decay phase in the forest should be preserved. Likewise, secondary tree species and the shrub layer should be preserved.
  • A game density should be aimed for which does not impair the natural forest development.
