Waltringen is a part of the municipality of Ense in the Soest district . The village is the westernmost part of the municipality.

geography

Waltringen is located in the middle of the mountains on the north-eastern curve of the Ruhr . The hair strand is partly part of the place, the northern Hochsauerland is part of the local flora .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century in a lift register of the Werden monastery. Elo tho Waltarichuson is named as one of the taxpayers in this document. Waltarichusen is probably of Saxon origin and means something like to the houses of Walter . This hoof of the Elo belonged to Werden monastery until it was abolished in the 19th century . The farm is the oldest in the municipality of Ense.

The judge acting in Werl , Volkmar von Walterinckhusen, was born there. He sealed his documents from 1463 to 1482 with a rose with two leaves.

In the course of the Soest feud , Wickede was set on fire in 1447 , as Waltringen was on the roadside, and was also looted and burned here. On March 2, 1583, in the battle of the Waterlappe , the Truchess knights killed over 600 farmers in the area who clung to the old faith. From 1607 to 1617 the place was ravaged by Spanish and Dutch privateers. Foreign troops looted the area in 1670, 1760 and 1814.

Second World War

At the end of the war , on April 10, 1945, the center of the village was bombarded with artillery by American troops from Wickede from 6:00 p.m.

Todays situation

In the course of the municipal reorganization on July 1, 1969, Waltringen became part of the municipality of Ense. Together with the former independent towns of Bilme, Bittingen, Bremen, Gerlingen, Höingen, Hünningen, Lüttringen, Niederense, Oberense, Parsit, Ruhne, Sieveringen and Volhaben, it formed the new community. A fast transport connection is given to the A 44 in about two minutes. Paderborn / Lippstadt Airport and Dortmund Airport can be reached in less than an hour.
