The Rotes Land conservation area with 2,035.42  hectares is located in the central and southeastern urban area of Marsberg and in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2002 with the Marsberg landscape plan . The LSG was designated as type A LSG, General Landscape Protection.

description

The LSG comprises large areas that are outside of the building area and other protected areas. In the LSG there are forest areas and open land with grassland and arable land.

A large number of old mining sites are located in the LSG, including the copper mines around the former Stadtberger Hütte . Larger Pingen districts can be found north of Borntosten , northwest of Leitmar , in the Obermarsberger Stadtwald in the Kump area north of Heddinghausen (Marsberg) and in the Rohrberg / Ohmberg / Buchenberg area east of Marsberg. There are also old limestone quarries, some with sites of lime kilns in which the pending Zechstein limestone was extracted.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to secure and maintain the natural suitability for recreation and the efficiency of the natural balance against the diverse civilizational demands on nature and landscape.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the urban area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue special permits for buildings of all kinds.
