Schwansener Schleilandschaft landscape protection area

In the interior of the country, river systems with differently pronounced low-lying areas divide the Schwansen tench landscape.

The Schwansener Schleilandschaft landscape protection area is a 46.38 square kilometer landscape protection area in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district of Schleswig-Holstein, north-west of Kiel . The area is located in parts of the municipalities of Winnemark , Thumby , Rieseby and Kosel . The Schwansen Schleilandschaft was designated as a landscape protection area on June 29, 1999. The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation attaches great importance to the natural and cultural heritage to the historically grown agricultural and marine near-natural cultural landscape without any significant impact on the technical infrastructure.

Description of the area

The part of Schwansen near the coast between Eckernförde and Schlei is free of larger settlements and larger transport infrastructures. In the coastal area, the landscape conservation area is strongly characterized by the elongated Schlei fjord, which is unique in Germany. In the interior of the country, continuous valleys with near-natural flowing waters and their floodplains (with natural biotope types and extensively used grasslands) and, especially in the valley slope areas, with near-natural forests, divide the Schwansen tench landscape. The agricultural landscape, which is primarily used for arable farming, has characteristic buckling systems with interspersed smaller forests and small structures such as ponds and small bodies of water.
