The nature reserve side valleys of Alme and Afte with 2357.11 hectares is located in the urban area of Büren and Bad Wünnenberg in the Paderborn district . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1996 by the district council with the landscape plan Büren-Wünnenberg. The LSG consists of 23 areas. The LSG partially borders directly on other protected areas such as the Alme- and Afteaue nature reserve . Settlement areas of Büren, Bad Wünnenberg and several villages border directly on the protected area.
description
The LSG covers areas of the valley slopes of the rivers Alme , Afte and many of their side valleys with their floodplains. These are the side valleys of Gossetal, Schemergrundsbachtal, Wermeketal, Schiemelergrund, Scheppenbergsgrund, Mummental, Frankenbachtal, Uckenbieke, Mertenstal, Muschental, Empertal, Aatal, Karpketal and Wieletal. It also includes slopes with lead washing. It is predominantly grassland in curb and bottom valleys. In the grassland there are also extensive guarding, dry grass, heathland, bushy slopes, wet and wet meadows. The LSG is structured by forest areas, individual trees, riparian trees, hedges, groups of trees and orchards. Near-natural beech and brook-alder-ash forests also occur in the protected area. There are also ponds, spring corridors, reed beds, tall herbaceous corridors and seams in the area.
Development and maintenance measures
As additional development and maintenance measures, existing arable land is to be converted into grassland on a voluntary basis within the framework of contractual agreements. Shore trees with hybrid poplars should be replaced by native trees when they are ready to be cut. Fish ponds are to be turned into natural habitats. For individual unauthorized fish ponds, specific measures were specified in the landscape plan. Spring areas and brook banks should be protected from cattle kicking.
