The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1996 by the district council with the landscape plan Büren-Wünnenberg. The LSG consists of ten sub-areas. The LSG partly borders directly on other protected areas. In the floodplain, the FFH landscape protection area borders on Alme- and Afteaue . Outside the floodplain, the nature reserve side valleys of Alme and Afte . Settlement areas of several villages border directly on the protected area. The LSG in the Almetal is mostly bounded to the west by the Almetalbahn and to the east by the L 637. In the Aftetal, the L 549 partially delimits the LSG, with the L 549 first running on the eastern and later western outer sides.

description

The LSG includes areas of the Alme and Afte rivers with their floodplains in the landscape plan area. The floodplain areas of the Wiele and Karpke brooks between Bad Wünnenberg and Fürstenberg are also part of this protected area. There is grassland in the LSG, including wet grassland and wet meadows. The grassland is used as meadow and pasture areas. Near-natural riparian woodlands, deciduous forests, forest fringes, rows of trees and numerous other woody structures also occur in the LSG. There are also a few tall herbaceous vegetation, reed beds and Großseggenrieder in the LSG. The Keddinghausen flood retention basin is also located in the LSG.
