The Afte (also called Wiele in the upper and middle reaches) is a 24.394 km long orographically right or eastern tributary of the Alme in the Paderborn district , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

geography

course

source

The Afte rises in the eastern part of Westphalia at the interface between the Paderborn plateau in the north and Sintfeld in the south. Its source is about 3 km southeast of the village of Helmern (near Bad Wünnenberg) not far from the A 44 . It is located (according to the German basic map ) directly north of "Dalheimer Straße" ( district road "K 20") next to the 364.8  m above sea level. NN located street crossing on the access road to about 450 m south located "Eggenhof".

Upper course

From its origin, the Afte flows in its upper reaches as an often dry road or field ditch in a predominantly south-westerly direction to and through the "Gollentaler Grund", in which the flood retention basin Gollentaler Grund is located, and then through the "Ringelsgrund", after the the Karpke coming from the southeast joins.

Middle course

The Afte then runs westwards through Bad Wünnenberg . To the north of the city center it flows past the former radio mill with a mill ditch branching off from it . After crossing the B 480 , the Aabach , which comes mainly from the south, and the Golmeke, which comes from the south, joins the former Franzmühle, which is located at the "collecting meadow".

Lower course

Up to the aforementioned confluence of the Aabach, the Afte is also called “Wiele”, whereby the so-called section of the river is viewed as the source stream of the Afte in addition to the aforementioned Karpke.

The Afte flows from Bad Wünnenberg within the Sintfeld in a predominantly west-northwest direction. After branching off another mill ditch, which leads to a former sawmill, it passes a sewage treatment plant and a little later flows through Leiberg (to Bad Wünnenberg), where the Olweke flowing from the north and a little later the Faulegrundsbach flowing from the south flows into it. The Söhlbach flows into the south a little below Leiberg.

Gradually the Afte turns to the northwest to flow directly southwest past Hegensdorf (to Büren). At the subsequent Keddinghausen (zu Hegensdorf) is the Keddinghausen flood retention basin , which was created after the floods in 1965. In its course to the southern city limits of Büren , the Afte runs - especially apart from straightening in the upper reaches - largely in its natural river bed and meanders through its small valley. The Afte then flows through the core town of Büren, where its course has been straightened and lowered.

muzzle

Shortly after the city center of Büren, which the Afte passes to the east, the Afte flows into the Alme Lippe tributary flowing from the south .

These are the largest tributaries of the Afte in the order from the source to the mouth (their length in kilometers, orographic location, mouth location and mouth height in meters above sea level are given ):
