The nature reserve FFH area Alme- and Afteaue with 240.77  hectares is located in the urban area of Büren and Bad Wünnenberg in the Paderborn district . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 2007 by the district council with the landscape plan Büren-Wünnenberg. The area has been protected since 2004 as an FFH area forests and springs of the Almetal (DE 4517-301) in the area of ​​the Alme and FFH area Afte (DE 4417-303) in the area of ​​the Afte .  

The LSG consists of three sub-areas, with the LSG in the village of Ringelstein only consisting of the Alme and a separately running upper ditch. The LSG partly borders directly on other protected areas. In the area of ​​the Alme floodplain, the Almetal nature reserve (Büren) borders to the south and the Alme- and Afteaue nature reserve to the north . To the east, in the Almetal, only separated from the L 637 road, lie the Leiberger Wald NSG , the side valleys of the Alme and Afte landscape conservation area and the valley slopes of the Alme and Afte conservation area . In the Afte area, the LSG directly borders the Alme- and Afteaue landscape protection area and the side valleys of Alme and Afte landscape protection area . Settlement areas of several villages border directly on the protected area.

The LSG includes the rivers Alme and Afte with their floodplains if they have been designated as an FFH area but are not a nature reserve (NSG). Areas of the Aue of Alme and Afte in the landscape plan area that are not designated as FFH areas and NSG are in the Alme- and Afteaue landscape protection area . The two rivers are located in the LSG with their typical vegetation and fauna, grassland, including wet grassland, high shrub fringes, riparian wood, rows of trees and numerous other woody structures. The grassland is used as meadow and pasture areas.

The area also serves to protect the FFH or bird protection guideline species bullhead, brook lamprey, kingfisher and black stork. In the valley area of ​​the Alme there is also the protection of red backed killer, wood sandpiper and red kite.

There is a ban on plowing grassland in the LSG, which is normally allowed in landscape protection areas. Maintenance plowing and reseeding in grassland are also prohibited. 

The Multhäupter Hammer , an old blacksmith's hammer , is located in the Almetal on the southern edge of the LSG.

Special conservation activities

The NRW Foundation bought the LSG at the request of the community for nature conservation - im Bürener Land e. V. 50 hectares of grassland. These meadows were used as rafting meadows until the 1950s . Flood meadows were irrigated for fertilization and a better water supply. In the LSG, the profile of the irrigation ditches can still be seen in some places. Rusted gate valves, called Schütt, are also evidence of the old cultural technology.

Between Ringelstein and Siddinghausen , the Obere Lippe water association is carrying out extensive renaturation. Thereby u. a. River meander created again. The river regains its natural dynamism in these areas.
