The nature reserve valley area of the Kleine Steinmecke with 28.7  hectares is located northeast of Meschede and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The LSG is one of 102 landscape protection areas in the city of Meschede. In the city there is a type A landscape protection area, 51 type B landscape protection areas and 50 type C landscape protection areas. The valley area of the Kleine Steinmecke landscape protection area has been designated as a type C landscape plan area, meadow valleys .

description

The LSG sometimes extends to the edge of the settlement. A viaduct of the federal motorway 46 spans the LSG. Two through streets divide the LSG into three areas. In the LSG there is the Kleine Steinmecke river with grassland in the floodplain . The Kleines Steinmecketal nature reserve borders the LSG to the north.

Protection regulations

As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the Meschede landscape planning area, this LSG prohibits the conversion of grassland and fallow grassland into arable land or other forms of use. First afforestation and the creation of Christmas tree crops is prohibited. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of extended care changes , a minimum distance of five meters from the central water bed must be maintained.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to supplement the nature reserve designation of Meschede to create a network of open-land biotopes so that animals and plants retain the opportunity to migrate and spread, and to preserve the occurrence of protected bird species and the protection of species-rich plant communities.
