The landscape protection area of the valley area of the Kesselbach with 37.4  hectares lies in the urban area of Meschede and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The LSG is one of 102 landscape protection areas in the city of Meschede. In the city there is a type A landscape protection area, 51 type B landscape protection areas and 50 type C landscape protection areas. The valley area of the Kesselbach landscape protection area has been designated as a type C landscape plan area, meadow valleys .

description

The LSG is located west of Olpe or south and east of Frenkhausen . The LSG goes to the edge of the two villages. The LSG is divided by a thoroughfare. The LSG includes the Kesselbach river with grassland in the floodplain .

Protection regulations

As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the Meschede landscape planning area, this LSG prohibits the conversion of grassland and fallow grassland into arable land or other forms of use. First afforestation and the creation of Christmas tree crops is prohibited. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of extended care changes , a minimum distance of five meters from the central water bed must be maintained.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to supplement the nature reserve designation of Meschede to create a network of open-land biotopes so that animals and plants retain the opportunity to migrate and spread, and to preserve the occurrence of protected bird species and the protection of species-rich plant communities.

Impairments to the LSG

In May 2015 an application was made to the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the district about "Activities in the LSG type C valley area of the Kesselbach" by the Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis , since the grassland in the southwest of the LSG was redesigned into a garden. The new landowner, who had acquired the land with the house there, planted various trees and shrubs such as spruce and columnar cypress, plowed up the former willow, laid a plastic pool and built a hut. About a year after the entry, the area became grassland again.
