State Parliament of the Monastery of Münster

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Middle Ages and the early modern period, the state parliament of the Hochstift Münster was the meeting of the estates in the Hochstift Münster .

history

As early as 1212, the bishop of Munster invited clergymen and ministerials to a meeting to discuss the affairs of the monastery. Wolbeck , Münster or Roxel were chosen as the location for advice, as can be seen from the documents. In August 1267 the name "Larbroke" appears for the first time in the annals. The state parliament was held there in a forest clearing from 1267 to 1618. This place was chosen because it was exactly in the middle of the three Gaue Dreingau , Stevergau and Scopinggau .

The bishop now invited the cathedral chapter , the knighthood and the city representatives of the monastery to the state parliament . The state parliament regulated tax law and, from 1447, also feuding .

At the beginning of the Thirty Years' War , the deputies met in the better protected cathedral. The last Landtag of Laerbrock was held on August 21, 1668 at the instigation of Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen .
