prehistory

Meeting places of the Landtag: The government building (from right), the Landtag building (ml) and the Verweserhaus (hl)

The state parliament as an institution was created by the constitution of 1818. Since then, the Landtag sessions have been held in different buildings: From 1818 to 1862 the Landvogtei - the later Verweserhaus - served the Landtag as a meeting building. From 1862 to 1867 the state parliament met in the former Kirchtaler inn (today Vaduzerhof) and in 1866/1867 the first parliament building was finally built, in which the state parliament held its meetings from 1868 to 1905. When the government building opened in 1905, the Landtag moved into the Landtag hall on the second floor of the government building. The government building could not be used during two renovations, so that the state parliament met in the years 1969–1970 and 1989–1995 in the Rheinbergerhaus , the birthplace of the composer Josef Gabriel Rheinberger .

Building history

In April and November of 1998 the state parliament approved a commitment loan of CHF 36 million for the construction of a state parliament building in the center of Vaduz. As a result, a competition was announced for the project, which ran until December 2000, which was ultimately won by the German architect Hansjörg Göritz . In December 2002 construction work began with securing the excavation pit and in April 2004 construction of the high-rise buildings followed. Finally, on February 15, 2008, the official opening of the building was celebrated and on February 21, the state parliament met for the first time in the new state parliament building.

The cost of the entire development came to around CHF 42.2 million, with over a million clinker bricks , 600 tons of steel and 5,800 cubic meters of concrete being used.

description

The state parliament building is made up of the three parts of the building, the high house , the connecting house and the long house , with the connecting house being used for the structural connection of the other two parts of the building.

The plenary hall

High house

The heart of the House is the plenary hall in which the sessions of the state parliament take place. The 25 members of the state parliament - as well as the five members of the government and the state parliament secretariat - can all be seated at a single round table (i.e. individual tables set up in a circle), which is a unique seating arrangement for a national parliament in Europe. The plenary hall itself is around 19 meters high.

In the lower area of the high house is the main entrance with entrance hall, which is decorated with a blue carpet for important visits and occasions. In contrast, a red carpet is laid out in the entrance area of the government building for important occasions and visits.

Long house

Lounge in the Long House

The long house houses various meeting rooms and lounges for the members of the state parliament and the employees employed by the state parliament. In the basement there are two meeting rooms, the state parliament archives, a library and a cafeteria. A lounge was set up on the first floor of the Long House , in which the members of the state parliament can withdraw during the breaks. The offices of the six-member state secretariat are also located on the first floor. The parliamentary group rooms of the three parties represented in parliament as well as the offices of the Landtag President and the Landtag Vice-President are located on the second floor . The building is closed off by a roof terrace which, if additional space is required, could be converted into additional office space.

Country leadership room

A parking garage with over 50 parking spaces is located below Peter-Kaiser-Platz. At this height, a 500 square meter country command room was also built, into which the government and other representatives of the various rescue organizations can withdraw in extreme exceptional situations in order to be able to continue coordinating disaster relief from there.
