history

For the state elections in 1980, the constituencies were reshaped after a municipal reform took place and Cologne enlarged through incorporations. So Cologne gained an electoral district. Cologne VIII initially included the Kalk district .

In 1980 John van Nes Ziegler won the constituency with an absolute majority. In 1985 Norbert Burger was able to defend the constituency and in 1990 he got the most votes. In 1995 the SPD fell below 50%, but continued to provide the directly elected MP, Burger.

With the state elections in 2000, the constituency description in Cologne was revised. As a result, Cologne VIII now included the Mülheim district , while Kalk was now covered by Cologne VII . So a kind of "swap" took place. Marc Jan Eumann won the direct mandate with 46.7 percent.

In the 2005 state election, Cologne lost one constituency. Cologne VIII was thus dissolved. Today Mülheim forms the constituency of Cologne VII , Kalk is divided between the constituencies of Cologne V and Cologne VI .
