The long-armed spit weevil ( Dorytomus (Dorytomus) longimanus ) is a beetle from the family of weevils (Curculionidae).

features

The beetles are 4.7 to 7.5 millimeters long. They are light brown to black in color and have finely black speckled wings and a pronotum that is very dense and finely dotted. Both parts of the body are lightly scaled so that you can still see the basic color underneath. The antennae , which have a very thin shaft, and also the legs, are colored rusty brown, although the antennae, femora (thighs) and tibia (splints) are usually darker in color. Their trunk, which is slightly longer than the head and pronotum, is thin and curved downwards. The middle area of the prothorax is finely haired. In contrast to the females, the males have longer femora on the front legs, which are also longer in relation to the other thighs, so that the front legs are the longest pair of legs (name!). A small, protruding tooth can also be seen on the femora.

The animals are found almost all over the Palearctic and are absent north of Denmark and central Sweden . They live on poplars and are particularly common in spring.
