The Antares 18S / T was developed from the Lange Antares 20E by Lange Aviation GmbH. The wingspan is reduced by two meters compared to the Lange Antares 20E, which is achieved by shortening the wings at the roots by one meter each. The Antares 18S is a pure glider, while the Antares 18T is a glider with homecoming assistance.

history

Status of development and approval

In the spring of 2011, the Antares 18T engine was still being developed; the first flight with the newly designed Solo 2350 turbo engine did not take place until November 2012. The Antares 18S was still in the type certification process in spring 2011.

construction

Crowds

The curb weight of the Antares 18S is 280 kg compared to the Antares 18T with 325 kg. The maximum take-off weight of both versions is 600 kg.

Water ballast system

Approximately 218 liters of water can be filled in the aircraft's 8 water tanks. There are two tanks in the stern. The outlet of the upper of the two tanks in the stern is coupled to the outlet of the outer wing tanks, the outlet of the lower tank is coupled to the outlet of the inner wing tank. In contrast to many other gliders, when the water is drained, the outer tanks are emptied first and then the inner tanks.

landing gear

The chassis is controlled electro-hydraulically and is also equipped with gas springs and energy absorption elements. It also has a hydraulically operated disc brake with a braking force limiter.

Assembly

No tools are required to assemble the wings, outer wings and the horizontal stabilizer. Only a simple tool (M6 screw with knob) is required to dismantle the elevator. The oars all connect themselves automatically.
