Long night of the museums in Berlin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Long Night of the Museums is an event in which museums with a special program open well into the night and are connected by shuttle buses. For the first time in February 1997 6000 visitors visited the participating 18 museums in Berlin . In 2010, according to the Forsa study, almost every Berliner (93%) was familiar with the Long Night. Until 2012, the Long Night took place twice a year.

Based on this model, Berlin museums developed their own formats such as the Botanical Night.

Around 120 cities around the world are now organizing museum nights (as of August 2017), including Amsterdam , Buenos Aires and Paris . Other areas of society also adapted the format, such as the Long Night of Science in Berlin, the Long Night of Religions or the Long Day of Urban Nature .

In 2017 the museums celebrated the “20 Years Long Night” anniversary together with over 32,000 visitors. On August 25, 2018, 80 museums again invited to around 800 events. The Long Night of the Museums is a joint event between the Berlin museums and the state-owned society Kulturprojekte Berlin .
