The Long Day of Urban Nature ( spelling : Long Day of Urban Nature ) is an event format for environmental education in order to bring the subject of urban nature into the focus of a broad public. The aim is to inspire as large a number of visitors as possible through direct experiences for nature in their neighborhood.

A Long Urban Nature Day was first organized in 2007 by the Berlin Nature Conservation Foundation and takes place there annually. The nature festival, based on the format of the Long Night of Museums , sees itself as a contribution by the State of Berlin to the preservation of biological diversity in accordance with the goals of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in 1992. The project was set up with funds from the Berlin Senate and the German Federal Environmental Foundation.

The Berlin Long Day of Urban Nature usually takes place on a weekend in June and lasts 26 hours. With around 500 individual events and 25,000 participants annually, the event has developed into the largest nature conservation event in the city. The offer includes, for example, natural history tours through Berlin's forests, parks and green backyards, bike and canoe tours, workshops on urban gardening and other hands-on activities.

Other cities have followed the Berlin model, but have adapted the format to their needs and regional characteristics. For example, Nuremberg has been holding a Long Day of Urban Nature since 2010 and in 2011 Kiel, Hamburg, Dessau-Roßlau and Erlangen were added. Görlitz and Augsburg followed in 2012, Bochum in 2013 and Bremen in 2014. 2015 Dresden, 2016 Zurich and 2017 Wolfsburg. The city administration is usually the organizer of the Long Day of Urban Nature, in Hamburg the Loki Schmidt Foundation organizes the event.

Similar events take place in other cities. For example, there are formats there such as the Long Day of Species Diversity , which, however, has a partially different concept.
