Long Heinrich (Regensburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lange Heinrich was a chimney of Südzucker AG in Regensburg .

The chimney was part of the Regensburg plant of Südzucker AG , which had to be closed at the end of 2007 as part of the reformed sugar market in the EU. The plant was founded in 1899 and was the oldest sugar factory in Bavaria, with the exception of the "beet sugar factory", which was built on Kumpfmühler Strasse in Regensburg in 1837, but had to cease operations in 1888 due to inefficiency. The chimney was built in 1974. At 150 meters high, the "Lange Heinrich" was a significant landmark in the city of Regensburg for decades and even towered over the towers of the cathedral .

On November 15, 2009 the chimney was blown up.
