flag

The flag of Estonia on the tower

Traditionally, the flag of the ruler of Estonia flies on the Tall Hermann . The blue-black-white tricolor of Estonia was hoisted there for the first time on November 12, 1918.

The Estonian national anthem is played when the flag is raised in the morning .

When the flag is brought in, a melody from the popular song Mu isamaa on minu arm (“My fatherland is my love”) sounds every evening . The text comes from the Estonian poet Lydia Koidula , the music from the composer Gustav Ernesaks .

Until 2009 the song Mu isamaa armas ("My dear fatherland") was played in the evening . The text was created by the Baltic German pastor Martin Körber based on the melody of the German student song We had built a stately house by August Daniel von Binzer .
