Driving slowly (bicycle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Slow driving is a skill discipline of cycling .

regulate

When driving slowly, the participants have to cover a certain - mostly narrow - distance as slowly as possible. Immediate disqualification occurs when dismounting, touching the ground with one foot or leaving the specified route. The routes can be between 25 and 100 meters long. The participants do not start at the same time, but one after the other. The winner is the one who takes the longest time to get to the finish.

history

At the beginning of cycling in the 1880s, competitions and championships in slow driving were held regularly, mostly as part of club or gaum championships. In the beginning high bikes were still used, and when driving slowly, the control of the difficult to drive bikes could be trained particularly well. But even after high bikes had gone out of fashion, competitions in slow driving were held until the 1930s, mostly as part of cycling festivals in combination with parade rides; this tradition was especially cultivated by the solidarity cycling and driving association.

Drive slowly today

Nowadays, slow cycling is held as a competition in cycling clubs so that children and young people in particular learn to ride a bike better. Competitions in slow driving are also held with unicycles , usually as part of a multi-skill competition.
