On October 16, 2013, an ATR 72-600 crashed on Lao Airlines flight 301 from Vientiane , Laos to Pakse , Laos. The plane crashed into the nearby Mekong River while approaching Pakse Airport due to a mistake possibly related to the bad weather .

The ATR 72 from the French manufacturer Avions de Transport Régional with the serial number 1071 and the registration number RDPL-34233. It was delivered to Lao Airlines in March 2013 .
Flight history
The plane took off from Vientiane Airport in Laos with destination Pakse, also in Laos. The first landing attempt failed due to weather, so that the aircraft take off had. During the second attempt to land, it briefly got out of control before it was steered in a continuous descent into the nearby Mekong River.

All 49 occupants, including 44 passengers and 5 crew members, from 11 different countries were killed in the crash. The only crew member who was not from Laos was one of the pilots; he was from Cambodia.
