Lara Belmont

Lara Belmont (* 1980 in Oxford , England ) is a British actress .

Life

Belmont was discovered by a casting expert while she was shopping in London's Portobello Road Market. She made her debut alongside her mother-playing Tilda Swinton in the 1999 film drama The War Zone , in which she plays the role of a young girl who has an incestuous relationship with her own father ( Ray Winstone ). For this role she received the British Independent Film Award for Best Newcomer in 1999 and was nominated for Best Actress . She also won the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival's Spirit of Independence in 1999 and was nominated for the 2000 Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actress .

Belmont played one of the bigger roles in the drama Ashes and Sand (2002), as well as in the thriller Long Time Dead (2002) and in the comedy Oh Marbella! (2003). In the television drama Henry VIII (2003) she played the role of Maria I on the side of Ray Winstone, Joss Ackland , Helena Bonham Carter and Emily Blunt .
