Larissa (saint)

Larissa , according to other traditions also Lara , Baren and Beride († around 375 in the Crimea ) was a martyr and saint of the Greek and Russian Orthodox Churches . Her feast day is March 26th.

Legend

According to legend, Larissa and 300 other martyrs, 26 of whom are known by name, refused to worship an idol. As part of the persecution of Christians under the Goth leader Athanarich , the martyrs were locked up in a church and burned.

Her relics were brought to Kyzikos by the Gothic king widow Gaatha and her daughter Duclida , where a church was built in her honor.
