Larry Eyler (born December 21, 1952 in Crawfordsville , Indiana , † March 6, 1994 in Pontiac , Illinois ) was an American serial killer . Eyler is also known as "The Interstate Killer".

Eyler was the youngest of four children. His parents separated when he was a baby. He dropped out of high school just before graduation last year, then lived in Terre Haute and worked in a liquor store.

In August 1978, Eyler took a hitchhiker in Terre Haute. When the latter did not respond to Eyler's sexual desire, Eyler drove into a side street and pulled out a butcher's knife. He tied his victim and stabbed him. The hitchhiker survived the incident with good luck but dropped his charges against Eyler.

In 1981 Eyler was arrested for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy. That lawsuit was also dropped when the boy was able to leave the hospital without physical harm.

In 1983, Eyler was arrested after one of his victims escaped. The search of Eyler's vehicle revealed evidence of further crimes. However, the police failed to get a search warrant, so the evidence was not admitted to court and Eyler was released.

Back in the wild, Eyler murdered 23 men in the states of Indiana and Illinois .

After Eyler was arrested in Chicago in August 1984 , he was sentenced to death on July 9, 1986. However, he died of AIDS in prison in 1994 .
